Ans. The real author,
MrinalPande provides to information through the sub-narrator,
Milli, that male children are very liked then
the female children. The story explains in the clear world that the woman in
our male dominated society is victim of violence and tyranny. They don‟t get
justice and if they raise their voice against the excesses done to them. They
are taken to task. They are subjected to physical and mental torture. The
bitter truth is that woman is the enemy of her own class and sex. Every Parent
wants done. They have no preference for daughters in a family, there are only
daughters and no son, no pains are spared to get a son. Medical and divine
invention is sought to get a son. Choicest love and affection is showered on
sons. Even the women organizations are practically doing nothing women. It is
not strange that the member of parliamentarians in India is Negligible. Infect,
social changes can‟t be directed in of women unless and until the male
psychology is changed.

Discuss the life of the little girl “Milli”.
Ans. Girls, the chapter
is written by real author, MrinalPande. Milli, who is eight years old little
girl and the Sub-narrator of chapter of “Girls” She is the middle female child
in the children in her family. No one loves her besides her elder‟s sister
Milli is very talkative girl and eager‟s conversation. She is not liked by her
parents due to this attitude. The mother of Milli, is going to deliver her
fourth child at her mother home. But now, she with to have male child (son),
and she has already three girls, Milli is one of them. There, no one give to
importance to girls. Milli says her grandmother I want to sleep with your on
your bed. She refuses Milli, saying it, there is no more place on my bed,
because Milli‟s cousin sleep with Nanni. On DurgaAshtami day, all girls are
called by Nanni putting the tikka on their forehead. Milli‟s sisters also go
beside nanni. Milli is also invited for the tikka ceremony, but she screams
loudly that, she dosen‟t want to be the Goddess. Her loud screaming afraid the
pigeons that are picking the food grains in the country yard.

Ans. The narrator, the
middle daughter of Lali was a revolting girl. Her activities hurted and
offended the family members. It seemed that the narrator always did wrong. Once
during train – journey, she crushed a potato‟s piece lying on the seat. It was
looking as an insect which frightend her younger sister. During travel in
train, her younger sister got terrified to see an insect on the seat. While it
was a piece of potato. So her mother slept her. Millie was not a wicked child
but innocent and playful as well as mischievous or naughty. Apart it she was
most sensible. Her mother calling her a problem was a great wonder for her.
2. How did Ma react on trodding her sister‟s
sandal? Why was Milli not
interested to enter
Nani‟s house?
Ans. On trodding tightly
the sandal of her younger sister, mother said that she was the root of her
problem. Ma proceeded to her own mother house for bearing her fourth child but
this time she has a drastic desire to have a son instead of a daughter. Milli
was not so interested to enter her Nani‟s house. She knew that her mother would
be surrounded by the relatives and she would be kept away from her.

something.Nani had the sugary tone when she asked her to go and sleep with her
mother and promised to tell another story the next day.

to a goddess. She starts crying with fury. She argued that why do these elderly

a male child than to a female child. It is a concealed illustration of social
violence. A woman in India has to be the breeder of sons and not daughters. It
is another social terror. Women are given not equal treatment with boys in
India. That is the third instance of woman‟s injustice.

did a change come in behave of Nani?
Ans. It was the day of
Ashthami and girls are worshiped as KanyKumari. So, Nani was bringing a tray of
crimson powder in her hand. There were the plates of halwa and purries. She
asked the girls to put the tika on their forehead. She lighted the comphore and
wished to do aarti to the girls. On this day girls are considered goddess, so,
suddenly change came in behave of Nani.

did Milli react when Nani wanted to put the tika and wished to give her25
paisa?
Ans. Nani was proceeding
toward Milli with 25 paisa wrapped in 1 rupee note. Milli notices the mark of
tika powder on the tip of her thumb. She felt it like a bloodstain. She starts
moving back the wall and screaming that she does not want all this halwa and
purries. Because she does not want to be a goddess. She screamed so loudly.

ashthami in the story girl?

Ans. Milli the narrator hates hypocrisy and
pretensions. Why should girl be adored „Kanyakumari‟ while they are not given
any rights in their own house. She does not want to be treated as a goddess.
She screams loudly. Therefore, she did not accept the Prasad from Nani. On this
day she remembered how her family members behaved all the days of the year and
felt there is no need to worship her as a goddess. So, she protested during
puja.
10. Why was ChhotiMasi crying night in the story
Girls? What does Ma tell her?
Ans. Masi was crying at night in suppressed
tones for the suffering she had been undergoing but Ma asked her beat them as
her destiny. She was saying that she did not get even as much respect in tat
house as a dog got. Ma told her to „edure‟ with that calmly.

for the narrator‟s mother to have a son this time?
Ans. The mother has
three daughters and has no son. As truly Indian, she looks upon her daughters
as burdensome misfortunes. This is the Indian psyche and it is hard to overhaul

Ans. On the one hand,
where Milli was talkative, naughty, obstinate and fun – loving. While on the
other hand her elder sister was practical, sober and obedient. She never asks
question to the elders often she makes Milli understand. So, she was more acceptable
in family.

to leave the house?
Ans. She wished that she
were born a bird or be able to invisible. She had with to be a star in the sky
or a boy. The final option surrounded her mind was to end her life by
swallowing burning camphor

Ans. The narrator of the
story „Girls‟ is an 8-years old girl. Her name is Milli. She is the middle
daughter in the family. Her complaint against the elders is that they hold a
girl inferior to a son. Secondly, they scold and ill-treat a girl child.
Milli‟s mother thinks all her daughters are a problem. Milli is naughty but
intelligent girl. She examines (ij[kuhgS) the elders critically and wishes she
were a bird or magician to escape from the world of human beings.
15. “I don‟t want to be
a goddess”? What does this tell us about the way woman are treated in our
society?
Ans. On Astami Day,
naani called all the girls before her. She put „tikka‟ on their forehead.
Milli‟s two sisters were also sitting in front of Naani. Milli started crying
with anger. She shouted why the elderly ladies should pretend to worship girls
where they don‟t really love them. She was deeply sad to see this drama of
worshipping girls. She doesn‟t want to be treated as a goddess. It is enough if
she gets fair and loving treatment from the members of the family. She only
demands equality with the boys.
